National Student’s Seminar on Social Exclusion ‘Ibteda’: Call for Papers

ABOUT IBTEDA
Ibteda is an academic and cultural festival which will be hosted by the School of Development Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences. As a collaborative effort by the students of the Advanced Centre for Women Studies and the Centre for Development Studies, the two day festival will feature a national students’ seminar, a panel discussion, interactive sessions and cultural programmes.
THEMES:
• Violence and Change
• Social Exclusion
• Aesthetics of Resistance
SUB-THEMES:
• Macro structures of exclusion: Caste, Patriarchy, Religion, Ethnicity, Language, Disability, Sexuality, Region, and the processes
• of Globalisation/ Neo-liberalism
• Institutions and policy: The presence of exclusion in law, bureaucracy, education, representation by the media, and exclusion created within and by the private sector, etc. Existing policies that aim to address social exclusion, where do they stem from, and how do they fare
• Spaces of exclusion and inclusion: Spaces where exclusion is produced and reproduced: geography, displacement, ghettoisation, urbanisation
• Resistance: The role of politics, participation, social movements, community involvement, and civil society and their engagement with social exclusion
• Theorizing on social exclusion: Social exclusion as an approach in itself; the capability approach, approaches of subaltern studies, and other theoretical positions
CALL FOR PAPERS:
You can send your papers on the above mentioned themes and sub-themes.
Submission Guidelines:
• The abstract should not exceed 350 words.
• The author’s name, designation, and contact details should be mentioned along with the paper title.
• Each paper should comprise of a word count ranging from 3500 to 5000 words.
• Font 12, Times New Roman, Double spacing
• Papers should be unpublished and original contribution of the author(s)
• Authors should use In-Text Referencing, with full references and notes at the end.
• Authors may follow any standard referencing manuals of style such as Chicago, APA, MLA for Referencing.
• Multiple authorship up to two authors is allowed.
HOW TO SUBMIT: Papers should be sent to ibteda.papers@gmail.com on or before the deadline.
IMPORTANT DATES:
• Submission of Abstracts: 22nd January, 2013
• Notification of Acceptance of Paper based on Abstracts: 30th January, 2013
• Registration after acceptance of Abstract: 3rd February, 2013
• Submission of complete paper: 6th February, 2013 (Soft Copy)
• Presentation of selected paper: 8th February, 2013
NOTE: Accommodation will be provided by the Institute. Participants will have to make their own travel arrangements.
