Journal of Indian Coundl of Philosophical Researchproposes to.bring out a special issue entitled “Rabindranath Tagore: Philosopher, Artist and Critique” to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath  Tagore. The issue will be devoted to exploring the philosophical vision of Tagore in the huge corpus of creative work that be has·left  behind – his fictional and

nonfictional writings, his poetry. his songs and his paintings. Of particular interest will be Tagore’s critique of the ideas of nation, and nationalism. his Viewson human creativity and its relation to tradition. Contributions on Tagore’s philosophy of education and his remarkable attempt to translate it into practical rea1itywill also be particularly welcome in the special issue. Tagore’s contribution to modem Indian music has been enormous, although\ perhaps. it has not received as much attention as it should. Tagore  songs are distinct from his poetry, are simple and, at the ~e time, tremendously profound, Philosophy has a great deal to .leam from them. Also.rTagore’s ideas about music being an essential part of school curriculam are important for any creative- thinking about school education. “The special issue will therefore also welcome contributions on these aspects ofTagore’s life work.

Potential contributors’ to’ the special issue should keep the following dates in mind:

(a) 7th Dec 2010 for receiving the first draft of the contribution

(b) 31st December’ 2010 for receiving the’ final draft

Cc) 31st March 2qll for the publication of the issue

Contributions should be emailed to Professor Goutam

Biswas, Guest Editor for the issue (goutamI953@gmail.com
