Theme- Problems in Analytical Philosophy
Guest Editor: Dr. Mudasir Ahmad Tantray
Respected Faculty/Scholar,
Lokāyata: Journal of Positive Philosophy is an online bi-annual Peer Reviewed and Refereed Interdisciplinary Journal of the Center for Positive Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies (CPPIS). The name Lokāyata can be traced to Kautilya’s Arthashastra, which refers to three ānvīkṣikīs (logical philosophies), Yoga, Samkhya and Lokāyata. Lokāyata here still refers to logical debate (disputatio, “criticism”) in general and not to a materialist doctrine in particular. The objectives of the journal are to encourage new thinking on concepts and theoretical frameworks in the disciplines of humanities and social sciences to disseminate such new ideas and research papers (with strong emphasis on modern implications of philosophy) which have broad relevance in society in general and man’s life in particular. The Centre publishes two issues of the journal every year. Each regular issue of the journal contains full-length papers, discussions and comments, book reviews, information on new books and other relevant academic information. Each issue contains about 100 Pages.
Concept Note:
Analytical philosophy emerged as a tool to understand those philosophical issues which were being considered as vicious and ambiguous. This problem arises only due to common language use in different dialectical languages. Language is the expression of thoughts. Philosophers assumed that all philosophical concepts are implicitly and explicitly stated in different languages and since different languages have different meanings and contexts. So, it is necessary for a philosophical discourse to analyse and verify these languages. Ordinary language is full of errors and ambiguities and they situated and development artificial language and symbolic language. Analytical philosophy is not a new branch of philosophy but philosophers have explored it from time to time. However, in 19th century, it emerged as a significant branch of philosophy which further has connected it with other inter-disciplinary fields like mathematical philosophy, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, syntax, semantics and symbolism. Gottlob Frege is known as the father of Analytical philosophy. Analysis was first used by the Greek Philosopher Aristotle in his work ‘Posterior Analytics’. It got new form in 19th century. There are also others philosophers who used analysis as a method and as a philosophy. The Most important are Aristotle, Acquinas, Rationalists, Empiricists, Kant, Hegel, Frege, Wittgenstein, Carnap, Russell, Moore, Kripke, Godel, Quine, Davidson, Karl Popper, Fodor Chomsky and so on.
Analytical philosophy is the branch of philosophy which tries to investigate and explore linguistics problems, logical problem and problems related to mind. Analytical philosophy had two strands; one emerged from Cambridge and other from Oxford. The philosophers in Cambridge side are Dummet, Quine and Davidson and others from Oxford side are Austin, Urmson and John Searle. However, the most significant philosophical school which has developed in analytical philosophy is Logical Positivism, which had led to the verification of traditional philosophical theories by Logical relation, truthfulness and analysis. Logical Positivism has developed into two wings; Right wing and Left wing. The philosophers associated with right wing are Moritz Schlick and Waismann. They are known as conservative right wing. They believed in liberlization of empiricism. Moreover, the philosophers associated with left wing are Neurath and Carnap. They are known as radical left wing and they emphasis on fallibilism and pragmaticism. Thus analytical philosophy is the breaking down of complex concept into simpler concepts. Thus we accept paper on analytical Philosophy and its related fields.

Choosing between the two often depends on subject matter and the nature of sources cited, as each system is favored by different groups of scholars. The notes and bibliography style is preferred by many in the humanities. The author-date system has long been used by those in the physical, natural, and social sciences. CPPIS follows the first system i.e. Notes and Bibliography. For detail information downloads our “CPPIS Manual for Contributors and Reviewers” from below given link:
