The number of seats for the workshop is 60. The applicants are advised to send their applications at their earliest. The drafts of the candidates not selected will be posted back on April 7, 2010. The registration fee includes the supply of course materials, tea/coffee and lunch during the program. The Participants are required to bring their own laptops for the hands-on sessions. Limited accommodation is available at GNDU Campus at academic rates. All participants are supposed to make their own travel arrangements including local transportation.

A Study Week on Indian Logic and Epistemology
Conveners: Prof. V. N. Jha(Former Director, Centre of Advanced Study in
Sanskrit, University of Pune) and Prof. Ujjwala Jha( present Director, Centre of Advanced Study in Sanskrit, University of Pune).

This Study Week on Indian Logic and Epistemology (Level – 2) will be held from 2nd of July to 11th of July, 2010 at the IIAS, Shimla.This Study Week aims at giving exposure to that Navya Nyaya language and methodology so that scholars can know how to equip and transform themselves to have access to the original texts written in Navya Nyaya language in Sanskrit.
The medium of instruction will be English. The knowledge of Sanskrit language, though advantageous, is not a pre-requisite for joining the Programme.
Applications are invited from College and University teachers and research scholars of Philosophy, Sanskrit and Computer Science. Only those who have completed Level-1 programme any where in India will be considered to this Study Week.
A batch of 25 participants will be selected from amongst the applicants. Those interested may send their bio-data (that should include their academic qualification, experience, research interest and area of specialization)
All expenses will be borne by the IIAS.

Applications for the Study Week should reach IIAS on before 15th of May, 2010. Those selected will be informed by 31st May, 2010.

Centre for Contemporary Studies, Indian Institute of Science (CCS-IISc), Bangalore, in collaboration with Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS), Bangalore, is looking for suitable candidates for a Library and Writing Fellowship in 2010-2011. Candidates with PhD or equivalent research experience, with a background in the natural or social sciences, and having an interest in interdisciplinary work that is specifically reflected in their research, are invited. Researchers at the stage of writing their PhD dissertations are also welcome to apply. Knowledge of the history and philosophy of science would be an additional qualification.

Consolidated honorarium in the range of 15,000 per month commensurate with experience will be offered.  Interested candidates are invited to apply in soft and hard copy, by March 15, 2010, for the first round of selections to:

CSCS invites applications for the academic year beginning August 2010.

Limited PhD fellowships of Rs.10,000 per month will be offered on merit-cum-means basis. After the first year, students are eligible to apply for part-time and full-time programme-related jobs at CSCS.

CSCS also offers a one-year Diploma in Cultural Studies alongside the PhD programme. The Diploma is open to candidates from any discipline, preferably with a post-graduate degree. 

To apply:  Applications should include a sample of writing such as a term paper, a current CV, transcripts of last two degrees obtained, and a covering letter stating whether one is applying for the PhD or the PG Diploma.

YOUNG RESEARCHERS’ WORKSHOP 2010

The PhD fellows of the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS), Bangalore (http://www.cscsarchive.org/) are organizing a workshop (Young Researchers’ Workshop 2010) from March 25-27, 2010, for doctoral and post doctoral fellows registered with a recognized university or research centre in India.

The Young Researchers’ Workshop is an event initiated by the research students of the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS), Bangalore since 2003. It aims to engage with critical research in contemporary Social Sciences and Humanities in India focussing on interdisciplinary projects and new methodological tools.

Interested doctoral and post doctoral researchers please write in/or send an e-mail with an abstract of 400-600 words (or no more than two typed pages) of the paper you intend to present which draws on your current research work, along with your current c.v. indicating academic affliation, postal address and email IDs latest by February 1, 2010 to the address/email id given below. Selected participants will be informed via e-mail within a week of receiving the applications. The final paper to be presented in the workshop would be expected by March 15, 2010. Travel and accommodation will be provided for the participants.
