About Maulana Azad National Urdu University
Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) was established by an Act of the Parliament as a Central University in 1998 with all-India jurisdiction. The University is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Common Wealth Universities. The mandate of the University, as per the Act, is to promote and develop the Urdu language, provide higher, technical and vocational education through Urdu medium and to provide focus on women education. The Act empowers the University to offer education through the distance and regular mode as well. Moreover, the University has made many strides within a span of 14 years of its establishment by launching newer courses both in regular and distance mode. In regular mode, the University has department of Urdu, Hindi, English, Persian, Arabic, Translation, Mathematics, Computer sciences & Information Technology, Education & Training, Mass Communication & Journalism, Commerce & Business Management, Women Studies, Political Science and Public Administration & the Department of Sociology and Social Work. Further, the University has one Directorate (Directorate of Distance Education), and four Centres such as the Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers (CPDUMT), Centre for Women Studies, Centre for Studies in Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policty (CSSEIP) and the Centre for Urdu Language, Literature and Culture (CULLC), H.K.Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies, besides the Academic Staff College, Maulana Azad Chair, Polytechnics and I.T.Is. Apart from this, the University has facilities of imparting coaching for I.A.S aspirants through Civil Services Coaching Academy and the University also provides coaching facility for UGC NET/JRF apart from Remedial classes & APPSC Coaching. On the basis of these achievements NAAC has awarded “A” grade to the University.
About Directorate of Distance Education
The University has initiated its distance education programmes from its year of establishment through the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) by offering B.A. in Urdu medium. All the courses of DDE are approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi. The DDE has set up 09 Regional Centres (Delhi, Patna, Bangalore, Bhopal, Darbhanga, Srinagar, Kolkatta, Mumbai & Ranchi) and 07 Sub-Regional Centres (Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jammu, Nuh, Amravati, Sambhal & Chandni Chowk) across the country so as to provide academic and administrative support to the students.
The Regional Centres and Sub-Regional Centres take care of student support services; management of study centres and admission process. At present there are 161 study centres within the purview of these RCs/SRCs. Besides this, the University has signed MoUs with Doordarshan for imparting lessons to the students through audio visual media. Further, the DDE is endeavoring to achieve its goal of providing online admission facility; simple process of admission to facilitate the students and providing audio-visual material to the students alongwith the Self Learning Material. Moreover, the distance education programmes are popular with a large number of students from across the Country and abroad. In coordination with the Council General of India, the University has started its examination centre at Jedda (K.S.A) in 2006. The graduation and post-graduation and diploma certificates awarded by the University are at par with the certificates of other central Universities. Day-by-Day the strength of the student is growing and students on roll as on date, are 1,57,000. Thus, the DDE is striving hard to reach the un-reached. According to a recent survey, the University’s distance education programmes are ranked at 6th place in the merit list of top 30 national level institutions in the Country.
About IDEA – The Open Forum for Distance Education
Indian Distance Education Association (IDEA) is a registered professional body consisting of Open Learning and Distance Education Professionals in India. It has a large individual and institutional/corporate membership. One of the main objectives of IDEA is ‘to help promote distance education by strengthening distance teaching systems, initiating sharing, networking and contribute for the professional growth of all those personnel involved in the process and continue their commitment to the fastest growing form of education in the world today. To meet this objective, IDEA has so far organized Seventeen National Conferences on a variety of themes. This 18th Annual Conference of IDEA aims to serve as a useful forum, which will pave the way of both educators and administrators of distance and open learning institutions to widen the educational opportunities and to meet the varied needs of the people of their region in particular and the people of the country in general and face the challenges of ongoing market expansions and competition in the field.
You are cordially invited to actively participate in the 18th Annual Conference on Open and Distance Learning and to submit abstracts and proposals that address the issues of the Conference.
Contributions are welcome from interested individuals and organizations covering various fields of Open and Distance Learning concerning the main theme and sub-themes in various formats, such as:

Papers and presentations should be of high quality, original and specially prepared for the 18th Annual Conference.
