Understanding Culture and Practicing Cross-Cultural Communication

July 17 – 19, 2009

Department of Humanities & Social Sciences
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur
Kharagpur- 721302,
West Bengal, INDIA

Objective

This course has two aims, not purely antithetical or distinctly apart, just like our selves and lives where nothing could be understood or practiced in isolation, and where parts are meant to confirm the whole. Further, these aims are the mainstay of courses devised to re-confirm the inter-disciplinary nature of knowledge disseminated in the current set up, particularly such as ours, where humanities and sciences intersect frequently to form new configurations, different from the ones that grew out of disciplines held apart.

Faculty

The course shall aim to attract faculty from well-known institutes within India, preferably from Central Universities, other IITs and some of the top universities of the state. Apart from outside faculty, we may have faculty from our Institute with expertise in the areas of Culture, Psychology and Communication.

Note: The course aims to accommodate approximately 30 participants
