Textual Workshop on Tarkasangraha of Annambhatta
(January 19th – 31st, 2015)
Applications are invited from Teachers and Scholars for participating in a 12 days Textual Workshop on Tarkasangraha of Annambhatta to be conducted at the Academic Centre of ICPR, Lucknow from 19th – 31st, January 2015, under the course directorship of Professor V.N.Jha.
Tarkasangraha of Annambhatta is the fundamental Text of the classical Indian intellectual, analytical and philosophical traditions…. On one hand it presents linguistic modeling of the Universe and on the other hand it imparts training in cognitive analysis, research methodology, logic and epistemology. Although, it is an introductory manual to introduce an inquisitive reader into the utter realism of the Nyaya-Vaisheshika System of Indian Philosophy, it provides thorough training in the analysis of human thought through analyzing natural language. It prepares a scholar to participate into any philosophical system. For this reason, in India Tarkasangraha is taught as a compulsory text for any discipline of Indian philosophical systems. It enjoyed such popularity that it has a large number of commentaries on it and newer and newer commentaries are being written on it even today.
The basic philosophical assumption of the text is this that the world of our experience is real, it can be known and it can be expressed through language. What language refers to is real. It is not the case, the text believes, that the Reality is beyond language and mind as advocated by the Indian Idealists. The text is written in a very simple but profound style. All relevant concepts have been remarkably analyzed and defined. It also provides training in Navya-Nyaya language and methodology.
Selected participants shall be reimbursed 3rd AC Rail fare through shortest route from their stay/Institute and ICPR shall take care of local hospitality during the workshop. Interested teachers and scholars may send their applications through proper channel as scanned copy by email (followed by hard copy via post) up to 5th of January 2015 to the Programme Officer, Academic Centre, Indian Council of Philosophical Research, 3/9 Vipul Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow 226 010 or firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com .
