Call for Chapters/Papers for book on “RTI Act: Indian Experiences”

The Right to Information Act-2005 has revolutionized the way public information is accessed in India. Cherished goals of the RTI Act are to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance by giving unhindered access to public information.

The RTI Act was also aimed at empowering the people by enabling them to know as to how the tax-payer’s money is being utilized and how the public authorities are working in the honest discharge of their duties.

It was already nine years since the RTI Act came into existence and was being implemented in the country. But there are still questions on the sincerity of authorities at various levels in implementing the act in its true spirit. There are thousands of appeals pending at appellate authorities and there were trivial reasons to deny the information and there were numerous pending cases at the State and Central Information Commissioners level.

Shockingly, many RTI activists were murdered and many more were assaulted and injured and there are threats day in and day out. And there are “RTI blackmailers.”  There are good and bad things about the RTI and its implementation and there was a whole lot of change post-RTI implementation in administration and polity etc.,

-In this backdrop, the Hyderabad Institute of Social Sciences (HISS) Publications plans to bring out a special Edited book titled “Right to Information Act: Indian Experience.” with ISBN No.—978-81-927323-7-4

We encourage the academics, activists, students, research scholars, public information officers, journalists, civil society members and others interested in sharing their experiences or writing their thoughts and or taking their look or giving their perspective on RTI and contribute a chapter/paper to the proposed edited volume.

The authors/chapter contributors can choose their own themes related to the RTI Act or can choose from the below suggested themes….

-History of Right to Information, Right to Information movements in world and India.

-RTI Activism in India and its repercussions/results.

-RTI and Media, RTI and Journalism.

-RTI and Polity and RTI and Public Administration.

-RTI and Law. RTI Case Laws and Judgments. RTI and Women. RTI and Empowerment..

– RTI Act and Commerce and Business Management.

-RTI Success Stories/ Roadblocks in effective implementation of RTI.

-State and Central Information Commissioners and their function and their appointments.

Guidelines for contributors:

-The papers must be genuinely ORIGINAL. Wherever they quote other authors, citation is a must.
